Collection: WONG Lok Wan, Loraine
Loraine Wong is currently the curator at Hong Kong Open Printshop. She graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, majoring in Visual Communication. Instructed by letterpress printing master Mr. Lam On, Loraine is one of the very few young movable type print artists in Hong Kong.
Despite the advancement of modern technology that has rendered traditional letterpress printing obsolete, the unique qualities of the craft endure. The ink that congeals on the paper, the texture of the cotton, and the impression of the letterpress all combine to create a satisfying visual and tactile experience. By merging traditional craftsmanship with innovative visual elements, Loraine creates works that bridge the past and present, exploring new creative possibilities while honouring the legacy of letterpress. She believes this is a rich and textured medium that offers a unique and compelling alternative to the slickness of modern digital printing.
