Catalogue of Lingering Ripples by Chung Tai-fu
“60 is the age when society advises people to leave their jobs and start living a leisure life. It has been 48 years since I first started painting. Over the years, I tried using different materials and mediums, and eventually, my hard work was finally recognised by the art world. In the previous two months, I spent five hours at the print lab, Hong Kong Open Printshop every day., creating all the works in this solo exhibition. This proves that age is not a concern in printmaking. What is more important is the expression and production of these artworks are like their subject matters—not only smooth and easy but also concise and textured like water. Sometimes there are ripples, but it is still a pleasure. In this short creative process, I realise that after the age of 60, one’s personal colours and shapes should “retreat” like water and “reflect” the world’s beauty. There should be no more clinging to self; instead, one should take things as they come and go with the flow!”—Chung Tai-fu
Chung Tai-fu joined AIR at Hong Kong Open Printshop in 2019 and held a solo exhibition “Lingering Ripples” from 9th November to 29th November 2019 in Hong Kong Open Printshop.
